HISTORY:

Renovations to this beautiful Eshowe landmark began in January 2012 but the real story begins about 130 years before that... The House was one of several erected between 1883 and 1888 when the British occupying force needed accommodation for officers and their families.

The intricate tongue and groove panels and the sturdy floor boards were carefully cut from Scots Pine (also known as Deal) in Scotland. They were then packed together into kits and brought by ship all the way from England to the east coast of South Africa. From there the ship would have navigated up the Tugela as far as she could go before The House was loaded onto a cart and brought to Eshowe.

130 summers, multiple families and a few alterations later we found a very different house. The original veranda had completely rotted away leaving only the inner core which was satisfyingly intact with its sash windows and glass panel doors.

The House in Zululand has been lovingly and painstakingly restored, a process that has taken two years. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

WEDDINGS:

Surrounded by a large and enchanting garden, the main house which dates back to around 1883 has been meticulously and lovingly restored. It makes a magical setting for groups of up to 100 guests enjoying drinks, dinner and ceremonies. For larger groups the lawns and garden around the house provide ample space to set up a marquee and have a celebration to remember.
